A trip to Iceland added a deep layer of abstraction to my work, this was a physical reaction to both the icy temperature and the prevailing colour white, set against the architecture of Reykjavik. Inspired by walking barefoot on snow at the thermal bathing areas, I produced a series of geometric compositions, providing a solid structure on which I explored the idea of a fractured image. The geometric oil paintings retain my gestural style and on a smaller scale, the gouaches on paper use more controlled opaque colour, allowing slithers of colour to create patterns.
