Career

06/10/2020

Sue Bridge is an multi disciplinary visual artist with a long career spanning animation, design, illustration and painting. In 2016 she moved to Folkestone attracted to the lively cutting edge art and culture of the town. She now works in her own studio in the Old High Street and has become an active participant of Folkestone's Creative Quarter.
She is currently focussing her time on developing her abstract paintings as her work moves in a new and bold direction, to be exhibited and available sometime in the near future. This will include quick drawn, gestural digital drawings that were precursors to the paintings.
In 2020, her experimental animation ‘The Last Egg’ was shown at International film festivals in Rotterdam, Los Angeles and at The Women over 50 film festival (online this year 2020). Her imagery from the film being used for both the WOFFF trailer and the front web page. She was selected for interview at the Festivals's Q and A panel. The Last Egg film has also sparked an Instagram page dedicated to showcasing art featuring the ups and downs faced by women ageing.
She continues to use the medium of animation to tell stories. In 2019, her short film ‘Mine or Yours', a blend of painting and animation was shown at The Turner Contemporary, The Photographers Gallery London and Fabrica Brighton for the ’Strangelove Festival’.
Sue has taught BFI students for Screen South's BFI Academy and run animation workshops for all ages and abilities across Kent. Clients include People United, Red Zebra, Canterbury Festival, and TakeUp Space Festival.
Sue seeks regular discourse to discuss hers and other artists’ work attending Threads a group in Folkestone which aids artist development through critiques.
Before she moved to Folkestone she exhibited her paintings across Kent as Sue Walker in solo and group shows from 2013 -2015. Her work from that period is held in private collections both in the UK and the United States. Always interested in education and wanting to further her personal development in fine art Sue attended a Post graduate Fine Art Professional Development programme at Tonbridge Art school from 2015 to 2016, and to deepen her knowledge of painting the Slade Summer School in 2014.
Sue studied Art and Visual Communication at Canterbury and Birmingham City Universities achieving a First class Honours degree in 1985. She was taught hand drawn animation by Bob Godfrey in his Covent Garden studio while at Uni and went on to have a long and successful career spanning 30 years at the BBC.
